Almudaina

Almudaina Apartment is located in Palma's historic old town, just a short walk from the City Hall and the cathedral. Its owners sought to transform an apartment that was no longer habitable into their new home in the city, preserving the essence of the building while adapting it to the needs of contemporary living.

The renovation included a complete upgrade of the building services, kitchen, and bathrooms, while preserving many of the original features that defined the apartment. The Ionic column, hydraulic tile flooring, and other existing architectural details were carefully restored and integrated into the new design.

The intervention respects the apartment's original architecture while introducing contemporary elements that enhance the space without compromising its character.

One of the most significant interventions was the creation of a new opening in the load-bearing wall, connecting the kitchen with the rest of the apartment. This gesture establishes a more fluid relationship between the living spaces while preserving the home's original character.

In the primary bedroom, a full-height velvet curtain replaces conventional partitions, separating the bathroom from the sleeping area without interrupting the flow of natural light.

The original hydraulic tile flooring was carefully restored, with missing pieces recreated based on the existing pattern. In selected areas, herringbone oak flooring was introduced, while Calacatta marble was used for the kitchen island and other bespoke elements throughout the project.

The combination of original and contemporary materials creates a seamless continuity throughout the renovation, maintaining a balanced dialogue between the existing architecture and the new intervention.

The furniture, developed in collaboration with Banni, combines contemporary pieces with selected items that were already part of the apartment. The living room rug was custom-designed for the project, while the suspended shelving in the workspace adds a sense of lightness to the interior.

A neutral palette of materials and colours provides a timeless backdrop, allowing distinctive elements—such as the red sofa and the original dining room pendant lights—to become striking focal points within the space.

Almudaina recupera un apartamento del centro histórico de Palma respetando los elementos que le daban identidad e incorporando una intervención contemporánea pensada para el día a día. El resultado es una vivienda donde conviven la arquitectura original y una nueva distribución, sin perder el carácter del lugar.
