A contemporary Mediterranean-style home in Calvià
Typology: Single-family house
Location: Calvià, Mallorca
Architect: Jaime Salvá
Project Date: 2018
Built-up Area: 501 m² + basement
IVORY is located in Cap Falcó, on a plot with a gentle slope and irregular geometry. The project takes these conditions as its starting point, avoiding the imposition of a predefined form. The layout is resolved by adapting to the terrain, organizing access points and orienting the house towards the most favorable areas of the site.
Starting Point
The commission came from a developer, so the house had to be designed without a specific end user in mind. This required finding a balance: ensuring it works for different profiles without falling into generic solutions. The project is based on a clear geometry and a carefully considered layout, where orientation and the relationship with the land structure the architecture.
Layout and Form
The house is developed horizontally, following the logic of the plot and its southern orientation. This arrangement allows for a direct relationship between interior spaces and outdoor areas, creating a fluid continuity between the house, terraces, and garden.
Interior and Exterior
The relationship between interior and exterior is approached with precision. The project carefully defines the position of each opening, controlling views, natural light, and privacy. Setbacks, façade planes, and vegetation create a gradual transition between both realms.
Outdoor Spaces
Outdoor spaces are conceived as an active part of the home. Proportion, shade, and materiality allow these areas to be used continuously, integrating them into daily life beyond their aesthetic value.
Materials
The selection of materials follows a logic of continuity and durability. Santanyí dry stone introduces a local reference and adds texture, while light tones enhance integration with the surroundings. Technological wood slats and metal elements are incorporated selectively to provide contrast and warmth.
The House
The project proposes an idea of luxury linked to spatial quality: a well-oriented, bright, private, and functional home, where every element responds to a clear logic and a contemporary way of living.
