Evoque

A villa in Son Vida that transforms the slope into an architectural experience

Typology: Single-family house

Architect: Jaime Salvá

Project Date: 2018

Plot Area: 1.001 m²

Built-up Area: 337,9 m² + basement

EVOQUE is located in Son Vida, on a plot with a pronounced slope. The project takes this condition as a starting point, avoiding treating it as a limitation. The house is organized in response to the topography, integrating into the terrain and using level differences to structure the architecture and define its relationship with the landscape.

Project Conditions

Developed for the developer Sophisticated Projects, the project had to respond to a complex site without losing clarity in its approach. The strategy is to embrace the slope as the foundation of the design, using it to organize both access and interior layout, without resorting to forced solutions.

Access

Access is provided from the lowest point of the site, through a two-level basement. This sequence defines the arrival to the house and accompanies the change in level progressively, creating a clear transition between exterior and interior. Parking, a wine cellar, and a gym are located at this level, resolving the more functional spaces before reaching the main living areas.

Organization

On the ground floor, the main spaces are arranged in a T-shaped layout. The living room, dining area, and kitchen are interconnected, while each retains its own identity. This arrangement organizes circulation, avoids unused intermediary spaces, and establishes a direct relationship with the exterior.

The layout also responds to orientation, maximizing natural light and opening the house towards the most frequently used areas of the plot.

Exterior

The exterior design responds directly to the slope. The swimming pool is developed across two levels, adapting to the terrain and reinforcing the reading of the project through its topography. Outdoor areas follow this logic, creating a series of platforms that organize use and extend the architecture.

The rear garden is conceived as a more contained space, providing a greater sense of privacy in contrast to the more open areas.

Interior and Finishes

Material selection follows a logic of continuity between interior and exterior. Dry stone from Santanyí is used in both contexts, introducing texture and a strong local reference. Technological wood slats add warmth at specific points, balancing the presence of more neutral materials.

Materials

Porcelain flooring by Living Ceramics unifies the common areas and bathrooms, reinforcing the visual continuity of the project. On the upper floor, oak wood introduces comfort in the more private spaces, adjusting the scale of bedrooms and circulation areas. In the pool, Onix mosaic tiles add a material nuance consistent with the overall palette.

The House

EVOQUE is a project shaped by the slope. Access, spatial organization, and the configuration of the exterior all respond to this initial condition, transforming it into a design tool. The terrain is not corrected, but integrated into the way the house is experienced.
